Kenan Thompson’s co-founded production company has found itself at the centre of a newly filed California court row.
Artists for Artists, also known as AFA, has been named in a civil lawsuit brought by Shwin Productions LLC in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles. The lawsuit names Artists for Artists DE LLC and John Ryan Jr. as defendants.
The dispute stems from an investment agreement that Shwin Productions says was entered into in August 2025.
According to the complaint, Shwin Productions later invested more than $583,000 in AFA. The filing alleges that, under the agreement, Shwin Productions was entitled to receive certain financial records, company reporting materials, accounting information, and revenue details connected to the investment.
The complaint claims those materials were not provided.
Shwin Productions alleges that AFA failed to provide financial statements, project accounting records, cap table information, member reports, and other company records that it claims were required under the parties’ agreement.
The lawsuit also points to Good Sports, a television project referenced in the filing.
According to the complaint, Shwin Productions alleges that AFA generated revenue from projects developed during the investment period, including Good Sports, but failed to distribute revenue shares the plaintiff claims were required under the agreement.
The plaintiff estimates that at least $240,000 may be owed in connection with Good Sports. The complaint also alleges that the full amount cannot be determined without a complete accounting of company records.
The filing also includes claims linked to business relationships and future entertainment investment opportunities.
Shwin Productions alleges that statements made during disputes over financial disclosures harmed prospective business opportunities involving individuals and ventures connected to Range Media Partners and other entertainment industry projects.
The complaint asserts claims for breach of contract, accounting, breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, defamation, and intentional interference with prospective economic advantage.
Shwin Productions is seeking damages, recovery of allegedly unpaid revenue shares, a court ordered accounting related to the investment, and other relief.
The case was filed under Case No. 26VECV03619 in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles.
The allegations are claims made by Shwin Productions in a civil complaint. The defendants have not yet filed a response in court, and no court has ruled on the merits of the claims.
